A cranial prosthesis is a medically classified hair replacement system designed for individuals who experience hair loss due to medical conditions or medical treatments. This type of prosthesis differs from cosmetic wigs because it is constructed for therapeutic use, scalp protection, and long-term wear.

Cranial prostheses are commonly used by individuals managing conditions such as alopecia, chemotherapy-related hair loss, surgical scalp trauma, and other medical causes of hair loss. Each system is designed for both medical function and aesthetic restoration.

Heres how you can obtain your cranial prosthesis:

Step 1: Contact your insurance for your coverage

  • Check to see if you have covered benefits for a Cranial Prosthesis 

  • Ask what your benefits for a Cranial Prosthesis entail. Any deductibles or Out of Pocket costs. Also, ask for the allowed amount of units you can purchase within a year

  • Ask about the payout and if you can get reimbursement with the proper documents for insurance claim

  • Make sure you get any prior authorizations approved prior to proceeding to the next step

Step 2: Acquire a Diagnosis

  • A diagnosis from your doctor is required to obtain a cranial prosthesis. This diagnosis is a requirement when processing an insurance claim. The prescription must contain the following CPT Codes: A9282 or S8095

Step 3: Schedule a consultation

  • The process begins with a virtual consultation via zoom. Prior to your consultation a zoom invitation and link will be sent directly to you via email. Appointments are required and may be scheduled online. In person office visits will be determined during the consultation.

  • During this consultation we will discuss your benefits & allowance from your insurance, hair textures, lengths, & lace for the custom unit. We’ll also answer any questions you have in regard to this entire process.

Step 4: Complete your insurance claim

  • A super bill will be sent to your email with the specifications of your unit once we receive your prescription

  • Once received, submit your super bill receipt and all other required documents to your insurance company for your insurance claim
